Pentucket Pond Project
Fanwort (a non-native species of invasive plant) has once again become
a problem in Pentucket Pond. A new committee, the Pentucket Pond
Advisory Committee, has been established to investigate and make recommendations
for dealing with this problem. Initially the Committee will establish and
provide a multi-year Aquatic Plant Management Plan for Pentucket Pond.
This plan will provide estimates of the cost to maintain the pond over
a 3-5 year period. Once the infestation and plant distributation is confirmed
this spring, a plan for remedial action will be made. This will involve
treating the entire pond with Flouridone, a aquatic herbicide. The
initial cost estimate for this treatment is $45,000. The Pentucket Pond
Advisory Committee requests that the Community Preservation Committee approve
and set aside funding for this project.
