Skate Park/Tennis Facility
This project, proposed by the Georgetown Park
and Recreation Commission, asks for an appropriation of $100,000 to be
allocated for the creation of an new outdoor active recreational facility
on approximately 15,000 square feet of an abandoned area at the American
Legion Park in Georgetown. This would involve building a tennis court and
a skateboard park on an existing area that is no longer safe to use.
The project would involve excavating the existing
area; the pavement of the 15,000 sq. ft. area; the installation of the
appropriate drainage; purchase and installation of new fencing, and the
purchase and installation of skateboard jumps.
The Community Preservation Act requires the Town
to appropriate or set aside 10% of the funds received each fiscal year
for each of the following areas: Open Space, Historic Resources, and Community
Housing. Once the Town has appropriated or reserved the mandatory
minimums for these three purposes, it is allowed to appropriate from the
remaining funds for Recreational uses.
